Curmalele sunt renumite inca din antichitate si sunt cultivate de 4000 de ani. In Egiptul Antic considerat un simbol al fertilitatii. Cand curmalele cand ajung la maturitate, fructele devin dulci si foarte aromate. Curmalele sunt fructe foarte nutritive, avand un continut ridicat in glucide. Completeaza aportul zilnic de fibre prin continutul bogat de magneziu, calciu, sulf, fier, potasiu, fosfor, vitaminele A, B si D, saruri minerale, apa - aproximativ 30%.
